Journal Entry Dec 20, 2010. 118 Days To Boston. The Kern Factor

Wed

6.2 miles    Temp ? degrees    No wind     Time of Run:  5:30 a.m.

Streets were still icy so it made the roads a bit challenging.  Still am amazed at how John can ride his bike through all of this snow.  Felt goo to be out running but my legs felt heavy.  Had my first session with Charlie Kern.  It was very informative and I learned a ton of stuff.  Charlie took me for a short run and he evaluated my form.  I passed.  I was told that I run efficiently.  Something that I have always tried to work on each day when I go out is my form.  I try to stay tall and use my core to preserve energy for the longer miles. Charlie gave me some strength exercises so I won't have to lift weights.  Now, I just need to stay disciplined and do what I have been taught.

**Charlie Kern-Head coach and director of Championship Training Academy, began running when he was in seventh grade.  He was successful on the high school and collegiate level.  In 2009 he won the mile in the US and World Championships for his age group.  Coach Kern has been coaching at the middle school. high school and junior college level since 1991.  Coach Kern has given presentations at numerous coaching clinics since 2004.  Drawing on these experiences, Coach Kern will oversee all running cap workouts and will help each runner achieve his or her personal best.
